• Buyer’s Guide – Old TV Shows

The only reason you would buy a car used on a TV show is because you want to feel and look special, so if that’s your desire we present you with the “Overdrive’s Top 3 Classic TV Show Cars”.

    1.      ’74 Ford Gran Torino (Starsky & Hutch)

This old Torino also known as “The Red Tomato” is as good for a police pursuit around the streets of “Bay City” as an aircraft carrier to go along for a joyride in a tiny river. The big, floppy and heavy car is not good choice for fighting crime because back in the 70’s nobody in the Ford’s design team knew the word handling and they probably used miles to measure the distance between axels, but it looks so damn cool…
I actually would love to own one of these, put some 21st century suspension under there, a 5.0L Coyote Engine, a crazy siren and leave the exterior as seen on TV. It would be one wild ride.
If you end up buying of these please don’t start driving it into curbs like Starsky did.

    2.      ’84 Ferrari Testarossa (Miami Vice)

A police detective living in a boat with a crocodile and driving a Ferrari Testarossa every day. The only way this would seem real is if the cast was consuming the impounded drugs, and they probably were, because the Ferrari was white.
Seriously, who paints a Testarossa in white? Probably the same man who thinks a sports coat and a pink t-shirt look good together…
For this one would have to have a little bit deeper pockets.

    3.      ’82 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am (Knight Rider)

A talking, self-driving car was the co-star of “Knight Rider”, their modo was “One Man Can Make a Difference”, and a man made a difference, the man that was dressed as a car seat and drove the car without almost no one seeing him (Sorry if I ruined your childhood).
The car was a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, a underpowered V8 able to go from 0-60 in 10 sec. and reach the top speed of 201kph (125 mph) nothing like the 2 sec and 480 kph (300 mph) claimed in the TV series.

They claimed the car was so awesome that it even squealed the tires in the dirt.
If you want one of these you are lucky this is the cheapest car in this list and there are hundreds of replica parts builders out there, just don’t build one with of those cheap dashboards that look like a Star Wars cheap Chinese toy.

These are the Overdrive top 3 cars from classic TV shows, tell us yours in the comments.
